About KASIC, THE KASIC NETWORK, AND SERVICES
The Kentucky Antimicrobial Stewardship Innovation Consortium (KASIC) was established in summer 2022 as a free program to address the use of antimicrobials across the Commonwealth in order to optimize clinical outcomes while minimizing adverse consequences of antimicrobial use.
OUR NETWORK
The KASIC network is comprised of antimicrobial stewardship leads at all adult hospitals and long term care facilities throughout Kentucky. The KASIC Network provides a place to share ideas, obtain education and continuing education credits for pharmacists, nurses, and physicians, and address antimicrobial stewardship issues affecting Kentucky. Not currently a member of KASIC? Join today – it’s free.
OUR SERVICES
KASIC aims to provide access to antimicrobial stewardship expertise to network members working in the acute care or long term care setting. To support this aim, KASIC provides access to experts in a wide range of pertinent areas including: infectious diseases physicians and pharmacists, infection preventionist, biostatisticians and biostatical analysts, bioinformatics, and clinical microbiologist. Additionally, KASIC provides on-demand education and training tailored to meet the needs of the individual or facility. KASIC LONG TERM OBJECTIVES AND PROGRAM GOALS
Establish a KASIC Network
Create an antimicrobial stewardship partnership comprised of all antimicrobial stewardship leaders in every acute care hospital, critical access hospital, and long-term care facility across Kentucky.
Define Antimicrobial Stewardship Program Needs
Working with the antimicrobial stewardship leader at each site, an inventory of resources and infrastructure will be completed to identify program needs.
Data Evaluation and Visualization
Review and assessment of data relevant to antimicrobial stewardship will be discussed with the antimicrobial stewardship leader and stakeholder at each site.
Develop and Support Implementation of Interventions
Using the information from the needs assessment and data evaluation, custom antimicrobial stewardship action plans will be developed. Support for action plans will be provided by the KASIC team, advisory board, and access to information and practitioners with expertise in the areas of antimicrobial stewardship, infection prevention, and clinical microbiology.
Evaluate Impact
Results of the antimicrobial stewardship action plan or intervention will be assessed. Both successful strategies, as well as lessons learned will be included in the evaluation.
Disseminate Findings
All members of the KASIC Network will have the opportunity to learn through sharing of the results of the antimicrobial stewardship action plans.
