Protecting Antimicrobials to Protect the Commonwealth

The Kentucky Antimicrobial Stewardship Innovation Consortium (KASIC) was a program that ran from 2022 – 2026 and aimed to address the use of antimicrobials across Kentucky in order to optimize clinical outcomes while minimizing adverse consequences of antimicrobial use. Resources are available free to the public.

KASIC year one summary is now available

Did you know Kentucky prescribes more antibiotics than almost every other state?

Kentucky has one of the highest rates of antibiotic use in the US and many hospitals and long term care facilities throughout the Commonwealth do not have sufficient Antimicrobial Stewardship Programs due to lack of resources, including funding and sufficiently trained personnel. KASIC wants to change the narrative by providing support, mentorship, education, data analysis, and so much more to address the overuse of antimicrobials facing Kentuckians today.
