2024 Surgical Infection Society guidelines recommend limiting antibiotics to 4 days post operatively in patients with adequate source control, including percutaneous drainage.

This is based on the STOP-IT trial, a randomized controlled trial comparing patients treated with 4 day fixed durations after source control to a control group who got 8 days of therapy based on physician judgement. 🧑🏽‍⚕️👨🏻‍⚕️

There was NO DIFFERENCE in 30-day infection or death between groups. 🥳
